Meet the staff
Debbie Davolio – Coordinator
I've worked within educational or employment and training settings for over thirty years, the last 12 have been here at Pierce College. I hold a BS degree in Psychology. Everyday, I apply my skills and experience in vocational assessment and instruction by providing students with information, support, and instructional opportunitiesthat help them progress towards the goals they have set for themselves, whether personal, educational, or employment.
As the Coordinator of the Women & Family Services Office and the Displaced Homemaker Program, I work closely with staff in Student Services, WorkForce Development, and Instruction. I often work with students who have been home for an extended period of time and are now in school to consider and train for workplace options. Teaching the “Workplace Fundamentals” career transition program is a very enjoyable part of my job. I am able to help students to explore their interests and potential. I help them to value the strengths and qualities that they use daily and to discover the skills and abilities that lie in their accomplishments and life experiences.
Helping students to feel better about themselves, to gain confidence, to get excited about their next steps is a wonderful benefit of the work I do. I work with wonderful, talented staff in the Women & Family Services Office and throughout the college. I am very proud of the work that we do with students and the contributions that we make to Pierce College and the greater community.
Carol Hill – Program Assistant
I have a BA in Sociology from Pacific Lutheran University and my AA is from Pierce College. Two years ago I completed the Workplace Fundamentals program here at Pierce. My previous work experience has been in a variety of social service agencies in the areas of education and child abuse prevention.
My last position was in Auburn where I worked for a year and a half at Northwest Aviation College in Pilot Services. With my position in Women & Family Services I am able to put my education and experience to good use helping others to succeed in reaching their goals.
Betty Newson – Transition & Support Specialist
I am a retiree from Pierce College who just couldn't stay away! My thirty–five years of experience in providing vocational and rehabilitation services to people with disabilities, and as a “resource gatherer” lend to the support and assistance provided to students who visit the Women & Family Services Office.
I am responsible for helping with outreach to the military posts to ensure that military students and families are aware of our services and resources. As a part–time employee I am still offered opportunities and time to spend with my family, including three granddaughters. I am keenly invested in living a healthy life, which retirement and my work in the Women & Family Services Office allows me to do.
