2010 Scholarships

The following foundations are seeking exceptional transfer students to compete for these national awards. Each scholarship requires you be nominated by Pierce College. District Scholarship Administrator

The Jack Kent Cook Foundation - Awards up to $30,000.

  • Academic Achievement critical-thinking ability as demonstrated by grades, academic awards, difficult curriculum and courses. Must show logical reasoning, the ability to construct a strong and well-crafted argument, and ability to evaluate information
  • Unmet financial need - possible indicator is receipt of need-based aid.
  • Will to succeed: Determination and perseverance to obtain an education. Assumption of significant responsibilities during school, such as employment or family obligations.

Barry Goldwater Scholarship - Goal: foster and encourage excellence in math, natural sciences and engineering
(generally 1200 well-qualified nominees compete for 300 awards)

  • Had opportunity to participate in research in their field
  • Demonstrate intellectual curiosity in other ways, perhaps through independent investigation of theory or use related to their fields.
  • Internships in research facilities or worked as lab assistant in local industry or at post-secondary institutions.
  • Students planning a career in math or science education are not considered strong candidates

Morris K. Udall Scholarship - ($5,000 award) 6 nominees allowed per college

  • Students committed to a career related to the environment - with 3.0 GPA
  • Native American students pursuing careers in Tribal Public Policy or Native Health Care
