Scholarships: $180,000
Scholarships help students create new futures for themselves, providing
recognition, encouragement, and motivation along with financial assistance
for their education.
Childcare Excellence Fund: $200,000
The Childcare Excellence Fund equips and maintains two innovative child development centers, the Milgard Center at the Fort Steilacoom College and the Garnero Center at the Puyallup College.
Families in School Fund: $150,000
Although student fees for our new child care centers will be below market rates, they will present
a hardship to many of our lower–income parent/students. We are seeking $30,000 to help low
income students pay for childcare costs so that lack of quality childcare is not an obstacle to pursuing
a college education. Affordable, quality childcare has a tremendous impact on parents' success
and persistence in college. According to the National Coalition for Campus Children's Centers,
“Graduation rates of parents whose children receive quality care are higher. Students remain in
school, graduate in fewer years, have higher grade point averages and demonstrate greater persistance
when their children are education in a campus-based Children's program.”
Program enhancements: $10,000
Help us enhance our instructional programs, providing our students with top-notch educational
opportunities that will prepare them to be competitive in the job market or at the university.
Clubhouse: $70,000
Support the Lakewood Computer Clubhouse, a free after-school, drop-in program where young
people 10-18 can learn to use cutting-edge technology in a safe, supportive environment that
encourages creativity, learning, and high aspirations for the future.
Exceptional Faculty Endowment: $10,000
The Exceptional Faculty Endowment is a matching program initiated by the state legislature. For each $10,000 raised, the state matches by making a $10,000 donation.
