Withdrawals & refunds

To be eligible for a refund, you must officially withdraw from the class. The percentage of refund depends on the date you withdraw. See the academic calendar for the current quarter's refund dates.

The student must initiate the paperwork for all refunds, including those due when a class is canceled.

To request a refund, obtain a Schedule Change Form from the registration office, complete the form, and return it to the registration office. Refunds are made to the original payment method. Payments made by cash or check will be refunded by check and the refund will be mailed to the student.

Any exceptions to the refund policy must be requested in writing to the registrar (Fort Steilacoom) or the director of enrollment services and student life (Puyallup) or designee, with detailed information and documentation to support the request.

Course, comprehensive, technology, and Recreation Center fees: These fees are also refunded, according to the above schedule.

Canceled classes: The college will give a full refund if a class is canceled. To receive the refund, complete a schedule change form and return it to registration.

Financial aid students: A federally mandated refund policy is applied to Pierce College students who receive federal financial aid. Information and examples are available in the financial aid office.

Classes with unusual schedules: For shorter session classes that don't follow the regular college calendar, refunds are made on a proportional basis. See the Distance Learning Web site for more information about refunds for distance learning classes, some of which do not follow the college calendar.

Receiving a refund: Refunds are usually processed after the 10th day of the quarter. Payments made by cash or check will be refunded by check and the refund will be mailed to the student. Payments made by credit or debit card will be refunded to the same card. Amounts of $10.00 or less are not refunded.

Exceptions: The registrar or designee may grant exceptions to the refund policy. Exceptions may be made for medical emergencies or military duty assignments. Requests for exceptions must be submitted in writing with detailed supporting documentation.

Debts to the College: If you have an outstanding debt to the college, the college may offset the outstanding debt against any refunds due to you.
