
What is the difference between Pierce College Fort Steilacoom and Pierce College Puyallup?
The two college campuses are about 20 miles apart (30-minute drive). Pierce College Fort Steilacoom is the larger, older college with about 4,500 students. Pierce College Puyallup is newer and smaller, with about 2,500 students.
Which college has more international students?
Currently, Pierce College Fort Steilacoom has far more international students that Pierce College Puyallup. Because not all programs and classes are available at both campuses, it is important to ask which campus would be better for your field of study.
Can I work while studying at Pierce College?
Students with an F-1 student visa cannot legally work outside of Pierce College. However, there are jobs available on campus for international students that have good English-speaking skills. These jobs are relatively few and cannot be guaranteed, so it is important that you have sufficient funds available upon your arrival so that you don't need to work.
How will I know what level of English classes to take?
All students in the Intensive English Program take an English language proficiency test to best determine what courses are best.
When can I start my studies at Pierce College?
You can start in September, January, April, or June.
How is the Pierce College calendar organized?
Our academic terms are called quarters. Each year, there is a fall quarter, which begins in late-September, a winter quarter, which begins in early-January, a spring quarter, which begins at the end of March, and a summer quarter, which begins in mid-June. You can start during any quarter, though most students start in the fall. Registration for classes and payment of tuition are done each quarter. It's a very flexible system.
