International Education - Housing

Pierce College students have three housing options:

  • Homestay. Students who choose homestay live with a carefully-selected American host family. Hosts provide a fully furnished room, three meals a day, and a family atmosphere. This is a great option if you want to experience American culture firsthand. The total cost is $600 per month.
  • Single room. If you wish to live independently and prepare your own meals, you can rent a private furnished room in the home of a local family. You will buy your own food, but you will have access to kitchen and bathroom facilities in the home. Single rooms rent for $450 per month.
  • Apartment. There are many apartments near the Pierce College campus, but we do not make placement arrangements.   We recommend that new students start with homestay or a single room; once you are here, if you decide to try apartment living, you can pick your roommates and choose your own apartment.  Apartments rent for approximately $575 to $1,500 per month, depending on size, number of bedrooms, condition, and so on. In addition, you will be responsible for paying for electricity, heat, and telephone, and you will pay a security deposit at the time of rental. (Note: Apartments in the U.S. usually come equipped with appliances, such as a stove, refrigerator, and heater, but they do not include furnishings. If you choose to live in an apartment, you should be prepared to buy or rent such things as beds, tables, chairs, telephones, televisions, linens, and kitchen utensils. We recommend apartment living only if you plan to attend Pierce for six months or longer.)

Housing placement

For the best selection, apply for your homestay, or single room placement at least four weeks before you arrive at Pierce College. The US$250 placement fee includes airport pickup and is refundable if your visa is denied.

To apply for a homestay placement, submit an International Student Homestay or Single Room Placement Application.
