We are currently seeking a full time, experienced Veterinary Technician. Main Responsibilities: Provide assistance to veterinarians at the hospital, including: • Equipment and treatment prep & clean up • Patient handling & restraint • Administration of medicine • Surgical prep • Processing of radiographs • Lab sample labeling & submittal • Clerical tasks such as record keeping & client invoicing • Other duties as assigned Required Experience and Skills: • Knowledge of procedures, including restraint, treatments, and giving assistance to veterinarians and technicians. • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. • Ability to uphold proper safety protocols. • Familiar and proficient with aseptic techniques • Familiar with basic laboratory procedures and practices. • Familiar with basic veterinary equipment, instruments and medications. • 1 year experience as a Veterinary LVT. Education • Required - Equivalent to completion of 12th grade or above • Preferred - 2-year degree by an accredited veterinary technician program, and have passed the VTNE, or have satisfied the prerequisites to challenge the VTNE (i.e. be qualified under the “Grandfather Clause”) and have passed the test. Our clinic is a small animal/avian/exotic practice focusing on quality medicine and excellent communication and teamwork. SPAY & NEUTER TECHNICIAN Application closing date: 5:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13. The Seattle Animal Shelter located at 2061 15th Ave. West, Seattle, WA is looking for a temporary full-time Spay and Neuter Technician. The temporary assignment will last approximately 3 months. Salary Rate: $20.90 per hour Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday 8:00-5:00 pm A Spay and Neuter Technician, under the direct supervision of the Veterinarian in the Spay and Neuter Clinic, prepares animals for surgery, monitors conditions before, during and after surgery; administers anesthetic and cleans and assembles surgical materials and equipment. Essential job tasks include: • Prepares and administers preanesthetics, vaccines and other drugs/medications to animals under the direction of the Veterinarian; administers and monitors intravenous, intramuscular and inhalation anesthetics; intubates animals for gas anesthesia. • Restrains animals of varying sizes and temperaments when loading them into individual cages and when administering preanesthetics, vaccines and other drugs/medications. • Prepares animals for ovariohysterectomy and orchiectomy surgery by shaving, vaccinating, scrubbing, and disinfecting the surgical site. • Assists veterinarian during surgery by monitoring rate and depth of animal's respiration, heart rate and color of mucous membranes; administering antibiotics and vaccines as indicated; providing supplies and adjusting anesthetic levels. • Monitors post-operative condition; alerts and assists veterinarian with emergencies. • Cleans, disinfects, or sterilizes surgical supplies and equipment such as towels, wraps, drapes, instruments, clinic attire, and syringes. • Monitors supply inventory and orders supplies when needed. • Admits and discharges animals; sells animal licenses. • Cleans, feeds, waters and exercises animals; cleans animal cages. • Washes clinic linens; loads washing and drying machines with cloths. • Stocks supply cabinets. • Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned. • Operates and oversees the maintenance of the autoclave. • Computer skills, i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook. Data entry skills. Minimum Quals: 2 years of experience as a registered veterinary technician in the care and treatment of animals, at least one year of which was in assisting a licensed veterinarian in an animal clinic or hospital. Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Licensing and other requirements: Current Washington State Driver’s License. Must be registered as an Animal Technician with the State of Washington.
