Success Story: Greg Miller
He's on his fourth college after a stint of snowboarding. The physical toll of traveling was getting to him. The 23-year-old even checked out modeling once.
"I have a hard time staying focused," Greg Miller said, "but I'm posted up now and ready to go."
The difference between quitting and sticking with his studies has been the men's mentorship program, based at Pierce College at Puyallup.
"Without Bret (Burkholder, mentor) and the program, I probably wouldn't be in school. School is tough to stay with," Miller said. "He helps me stay focused and helps me figure out why I'm doing what I'm doing.
"At a larger school I attended, well, they're big and can't focus on one student. I figured no one was there to keep me on track. I was bouncing off the walls. Dealing with the stress was hard for me."
Now getting a degree is the focus for the Eatonville High School graduate.
"I used to be in a hurry and want everything done all at once. My mind wanders and I have a big imagination. I was just doin' what I wanted to do," he said. "Now I'm interested in writing and the arts and anything outside," he grins. "I'm a little claustrophobic."
He is learning to combine his interests and strengths by toying with taking nature and wildlife photos.
"About once a week, I just go out and take pictures. That's my form of self-time."
