A general introduction to the visual arts,
designed to develop within the student an insight and
comprehension of the actual work of art. Topics of: perception,
aesthetics, creativity, elements of design, principles of design,
role of the media, and a general chronological survey of the
visual arts are investigated.

Lectures, demonstrations and studio work deal with line, edge,
shape, area, texture and value as vital elements in creative
design.

A general introduction to a chronological
look at the development of Western Art from cave painting to the
end of the 20th Century. This class is for the non-art major and
there are no prerequisites.

approaches to drawing. The investigation of a variety of
concepts, media, techniques and compositional considerations is
employed to enable the student to gain as wide a knowledge of
