basic chemical concepts including atomic structure, periodic

101 (5) Introduction to Inorganic Chemistry
GER-NS
Prereq: CHEM 100, H.S. chemistry or
instructor’s permission. MATH 98 (which may be taken
concurrently) and recommended for ENGL 101 on placement test.
An introduction to inorganic chemistry for
health professionals or as chemical background for further
studies in chemistry. Topics covered include unit conversions,
atomic structure, periodic properties, chemical bonds, basic
stoichiometry, states of matter, solutions, equilibrium,
acid/base chemistry and oxidation/reduction. Lab included.
102 (6) Introduction to Organic and Biochemistry

Prereq: CHEM 101
Continuation of CHEM 101. The course
includes an introduction to organic functional groups and a study
of carbohydrates, optical isomerism, lipids, proteins, enzymes,
nucleic acids, and metabolism. Lab included.

The relationship of basic chemical concepts
to issues in modern society will be discussed. Intended for
non-science majors.
119 (6) Chemistry for Veterinary Technicians
Prereq: First year standing in the
Veterinary Technology Program
Features of atomic structure, chemical
bonding, acid/base theory equilibrium as they apply to basic
science. Lipids, proteins and carbohydrates will be discussed
with special emphasis placed on metabolism. The importance of
hormones and body fluids. Lab included.
139 (5) Preparation for General Chemistry (non-lab)

Prereq: MATH 98 or equivalent with a
grade of 2.0 or better or placement test score above MATH
098.
The course is designed to supply the
science major student with basic mathematical preparation for a
successful experience in their science studies. This is a
quantitative course that develops the problem solving skills
needed in today’s high tech society. The Chemistry 139
course is required for students wishing to take General
Chemistry, CHEM 140 series.

analysis, periodic properties, atomic structure, stoichiometry,
thermochemistry and quantum theory. Lab included.

The course covers bonding theory, molecular structure, states of
matter, chemical reactions in solution, solutions, kinetics, and
