About the group
The Pierce College Jazz Ensemble (PCJE) was first organized in 1972. Currently, Kareem Kandi directs the afternoon student group. The afternoon jazz ensemble is a scholarship ensemble and is restricted to enrolled Pierce College students. Students from both Pierce College Puyallup and Pierce College Fort Steilacoom participate. Students generally audition for the group after enrolling in a 2 credit class (MUS157/257). The group rehearses on T,Th, from 3:00-5:00 during the academic quarter. Running Start students are accepted into this group if they pass the audition.
The afternoon ensemble usually performs in November, March, and May, as well as at special events in Pierce County.
