Pierce College events to stress its 'Don't Starve the Solution' message to state and local leaders

Pierce College Puyallup and Pierce College Fort Steilacoom will each host community action events this month to highlight ways local and state leaders and community members can work together to support community and technical colleges. College leaders and students will show how two-year colleges can help the state out of its current economic crisis.

“In these tough economic times, two-year colleges are here to help people get trained for the jobs of the future,” said Pierce College Chancellor Michele Johnson. “Especially now, it’s crucial that we not starve the solution.”

Pierce College Puyallup’s event will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Dec. 9 at the College Center Multipurpose Room B. Pierce College Puyallup is located at 1601 39th Ave. SE.

Pierce College Fort Steilacoom’s event will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Cascade building boardroom, 325-H. Pierce College Fort Steilacoom is located at 9401 Farwest Dr. SW, Lakewood.

Chancellor Michele Johnson will speak about the current state economic crisis and highlight the ways community colleges are working to speed recovery and bring greater financial stability to Pierce County’s families and workforce.

Pierce College Puyallup President Tana Hasart and Pierce College Fort Steilacoom President Denise Yochum will then outline the resources already available at the colleges to help job seekers secure employment and support. In addition, Pierce College students will share their own stories.

There will be time allotted at each event for audience questions and feedback. Refreshments will be served. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
