Core Abilities Outcomes

Critical, Creative, and Reflective Thinking:
Graduates will be able to question, search for answers and meaning, and develop ideas that lead to action.

Responsibility:
Graduates will be able to respond by examining the relationship between self, community, and environments, evaluating potential impacts and consequences of actions, and making choices and contributions based on that examination and evaluation.

Information Competency:
Graduates will be able to seek, find, evaluate and use information and employ information technology to engage in lifelong learning.

Effective Communication:
Graduates will be able to exchange messages in a variety of contexts using multiple methods.

Multiculturalism:

Communication:
Graduates identify, analyze, and evaluate rhetorical strategies in one’s own and other’s writing in order to communicate effectively.

Graduates acquire skills to critically interpret, analyze and evaluate forms of human expression, and create and perform as an expression of the human experience.

Social Sciences:
Graduates use social science research methods and/or theory in order to analyze and interpret social phenomena.

Natural Sciences:

Nursing Process: The graduate will demonstrate beginning competencies and identify the implications associated with the nursing process to deliver care and promote safe practice regardless of setting.

Scope of Practice: The graduate will understand the implications of functioning within the registered nurse’s scope of practice.

Basic Technical Skills: A nursing assistant demonstrates basic technical skills which facilitate an optimal level of functioning for client or resident, recognizing individual, cultural, and religious diversity.

Personal Care Skills: A nursing assistant demonstrates basic personal care skills.

Mental Health and Social Service Needs: A nursing assistant demonstrates the ability to identify psychosocial needs of all clients or residents based upon awareness of the developmental and age specific processes.

Care of Cognitively Impaired Residents: A nursing assistant demonstrates basic care of cognitively impaired clients or residents.

Basic Restorative Services: The nursing assistant incorporates principles and skills in providing restorative care.

Client or Resident Rights and Promotion of Independence: A nursing assistant demonstrates behavior which maintains and respects client or resident rights and promotes independence, regardless of race, religion, life-style, sexual preference, disease process, or ability to pay.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills: A nursing assistant uses communication and interpersonal skills effectively to function as a member of the nursing team.

Infection Control: A nursing assistant uses standard and transmission based precautions to prevent the spread of microorganisms.

Safety and Emergency Procedures: A nursing assistant demonstrates the ability to identify and implement safety and emergency procedures.

Rules and Regulations knowledge: A nursing assistant demonstrates knowledge of and can explain the practical implications of the laws and regulations which affect nursing assistant practice.
