remaining unowned pages/topics

the list of remaining unclaimed information

About information owners

Yes, a site can have more than one owner.

No, you don't need to know anything about the Web. You need to know about the information that you own.

I will do all the updating, and I will contact you on a regular basis (a couple of times each quarter) to ask you to review the information and send changes, if any.

Your name will probably not appear anywhere on the page; I'll store it in my list of pages/topics.

Please email me if any of these topics/pages belong to you. Thanks!

assessment project happenings

Yes, I know I said I'd be writing more, and I haven't. Here's the skinny since the middle of last month:

  • new site design & information architecture went up. this probably could've been tested more thoroughly, but given that it was the end of summer, I'm happy that it got as much testing as it did. (I kept running around with printouts saying "what do you think of this?")
  • modified template system went live with the new design. it's a small step up from the old template system, mostly in that most pages are listed in a tiny mySQL database, which also has room for...
  • information owners. I have these about 60-70% identified, and I'll be working on getting the rest set when I get back from...
  • the HighEdWebDev conference in Rochester, which is next week. I'll be presenting the results of our project as a Showcase. My presentation is already online, notes to follow shortly.
  • the new info arch is gradually percolating through the subsites that use the old site navigation. I'm actually pondering doing some weird things with JavaScript to get all those using the moock Flash replacement method.
  • things in my peripheral vision: the intranet (what a mess!), a conclave of cc site developers, doing my presentation to the district at large.

seeking information owners

Pierce College faculty and staff: please review this listing of pages: info-arch.csv. If you are responsible for creating the information on any page, please let me know!

assessment follow-up update

I haven't been using this much the last couple of months...but I'm ramping up again. Been working on the new information architecture, crawling around in the weeds yesterday.

For those who've been here before, I've changed the template and removed the old comment function. I'll try to add the old comments in for the sake of historical accuracy, but it may not happen for a while.

Also, our project is going to be the subject of a presentation that I'll be giving at HighEdWebDev's 2004 conference in October. Here's a sneak peek at what I'm working on; the final version will be posted with the other project documents.

IA next steps

I have two models (one by category, the other by audience) and a simplified home page mockup that I'm going to use for some followup testing, starting with Shelley in our office. (if that goes well, I'll send an all-Official email to get a few more volunteers.)

Also had a bit of a brainstorm yesterday for visual layout; might scan in the sketches I drew in my journal on the bus home.

so, a plan...

1. create a structure/hierarchy/taxonomy/whatever.
2. identify owners for all pieces of information. (use Lynn's card sort list as a starting point.)
3. merge core pages into maintenance schedule.
4. move navigation towards new structure.
5. move design towards current look/feel, match with navigation.
6. develop system for getting information from owners to site.

information architecture

Tuesday I have a room booked with Don & Teri to do a review of all the card sort materials and start coming up with something new.

a thought that just occurred to me: I should identify an "information owner" for every page in the core. I have site managers for all the subsites, even the ones where we do maintenance...why not do the same thing for core pages?
