CIS Degree Alternatives

Pierce College offers many program options, depending on the career path that interests you.

Associate Degree in Programming.

This technical degree prepares students for entry–level employment in computer programming. Computer languages currently being taught include; C, C++, Java, VB.NET, SQL, HTML, JavaScript, XML and ASP.NET. Special language topic classes such as C# and Advanced VB.NET are also offered during the school year.

Associate Degree in Technical Support

This unique program is designed to meet the growing demand for “microcomputer specialists” – trainers, problem solvers and troubleshooters who work with businesses as they expand microcomputer use in all phases of operations.

Associate Degree in Database Management & Design

Students who seek an Associate in Database Management will learn programming theory and techniques, relational database concepts, data modeling, data and system security and the Structured Query Language. The database programs currently being offered include the Oracle and SQL Server database systems. Graduates are qualified for entry–level database design and junior database administrator positions.

Associate Degree in Arts & Sciences

This degree prepares students with computing interests for transfer to four–year institutions for Bachelor's or Master's degrees in computer science, computer engineering or business/management information systems.

Additionally, we have an ASSOCIATE IN PROGRAMMING DEGREE, UWT CSS transfer option that has been articulated with the University of Washington in Tacoma that can be used as both a transfer degree to UWT and a professional/technical degree.

You will study with instructors who have both academic expertise and practical experience in their field, bringing a genuine working knowledge to their teaching.

To Enroll in CIS Programs

You should have a basic understanding of the computer keyboard and an interest in applying those skills in your area of study. You must have a high school diploma or GED certificate, typing/keyboarding skills of 35 wpm, and must have completed intermediate Algebra (Math 98). All these requirements can be fulfilled at Pierce College. A faculty advisor will work with you to explore your options and plan a program of study.
