Admission Requirements

The successful applicant to the program will be:

  • Fluent in English and another language, in both spoken and written forms
  • Comfortable speaking in public
  • Professional in appearance and demeanor
  • Highly motivated

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Each requirement must be met through one of the options listed:

  1. A TOEFL score of 550 OR an OPI rating of Advanced High in English OR department permission.
  2. An OPI rating of Advanced High in a language other than English OR department permission.

NOTE: Decisions to admit students to the program may be guided by the availability of faculty and/or paraprofessionals qualified to assess student performance AND by the demand for interpreters in a particular language in Pierce County.

  1. Cover letter detailing reasons you wish to be an interpreter and the qualifications you have to be trained as an interpreter.
  2. Test scores and/or other documentation of language ability.
  3. Letter of recommendation from a teacher or employer.
  4. Any college transcripts
