Transfer News!

University transfer degrees satisfy the first two years of coursework at four-year institutions. If your educational focus is a bachelor's degree or beyond, it makes sense to attend Pierce College for the first two years.

Why you should start your college education at Pierce

  • You'll pay a fraction of the cost for the same education.
  • You'll enjoy small class sizes and individualized attention from instructors who care.
  • You'll be taught by faculty exceptional in their fields.

When you're finished, you will have a two-year degree suitable for transfer to any public four-year school in Washington state, or one tailored for the transfer school of your choice. And you will be better prepared to succeed there.

Degrees offered

Download the University Transfer section of the 2007-2008 Catalog (PDF, 300 KB).
Download the Associate of Arts Worksheet to help keep track of credits.

  • Associate of Arts (AA) for liberal arts transfer students, sometimes also known as the DTA Associate degree. An Option B tailored to a specific university is also available.
  • Associate of Science (AS) for science transfer students. Two degree tracks are available:
    1. Track One: for science pre-majors in biological and environmental/resource sciences; geology and earth science; and chemistry.
    2. Track Two: For science pre-majors in engineering, computer science, physics and atmospheric sciences.

Direct transfer degrees are also available for specific fields. These degrees ensure that students who complete the DTA degree will have satisfied the lower division general education (or core) requirements and lower division degree-related requirements for baccalaureate institutions.

Understanding transfer requirements

Because transfer requirements vary among colleges and universities, be sure to work closely with your Pierce College advisor in planning your program and courses. Also, check the Transfer News where the latest transfer events and information for Pierce College can be found.

Select your transfer college or university early for the best results. Then you can read a catalog and transfer guide and become familiar with its requirements. Look at the requirements for your intended major, too: some majors require pre-requisite coursework that you will need to take at Pierce College.

If you haven’t decided where you would like to transfer, your advisor will help you plan a well-balanced program to meet your transfer needs.

Transfer guides from selected local universities are available on our Web site. The Higher Education Coordinating Board defines policy for courses accepted for transfer at Washington’s public colleges and universities. Admissions deadlines and requirements for public 4-year colleges and private 4-year colleges are also available on our website. As with any compilation of such information, always double check with the 4-year institution to insure you have the most accurate, up-to-date information.

For more information, talk to a faculty advisor, to the Pierce College advising centers, or to an admissions officer of the four-year institution.

Credit requirements for all transfer degrees

More than 90 credits may be earned at Pierce College, but some 4-year institutions may allow no more than 90 to apply to your chosen four-year program of study. Be sure to check with the receiving university. You are responsible for ensuring that courses will be accepted for transfer. College preparatory courses and those numbered below 100 are not transferable.
