Student Online Services - Frequently Asked Questions

How do I protect my student records while using Student Online Services (SOS)?
Once you've finished your transaction, return to the Student Online Services homepage. This will prevent others from viewing the information you've submitted. Also, during your initial login to the SOS system, you should change your PIN to another four- to six-digit number known only to you.

When can I access SOS?
Services requiring a Student Identification (SID) number and PIN, such as registration and checking grades, are available from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, except for holidays and in-service days when the college is closed.

Services that do not require a SID or PIN (such as viewing class listings or searching the catalog or libraries) can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. These services are available on holidays, as well.

What is my Student Identification (SID) number?
This number is assigned to you by the college and is required to access your personal account information. If you do not know your SID number, bring photo identification to any of the Pierce College registration offices.

What is my inquiry PIN?
When you start at Pierce College, you are given a temporary PIN (also known as an inquiry PIN). This number is your birthday in the form of mmddyy. For security reasons, you should change your PIN to another four- to six-digit number upon first logging in to the SOS system.

What if I forget my PIN?
If you've forgotten your PIN, go to the registration office at the campus where you attend classes. You'll need to present photo identification. Registration staff will retrieve or reset your PIN for you. Note: Student PINs will not be given out over the phone or by email, or without photo identification.

How do I get a Registration Access Code (RAC)?
A RAC is required to register for classes online. You get this number from your advisor.

How do I register with SOS?
If you are currently enrolled at Pierce College (you've already submitted your admissions form and have received an acceptance packet in the mail), you can register online using the SOS system. Follow these basic steps:

  • Check your registration time.
  • Meet with your advisor. He or she will give you a Registration Access Code. If you use self-advising, a RAC will be sent to you in the mail prior to your registration time.
  • Choose your schedule. A helpful tool is the online schedule planner link, which can select sample schedules for you based on the classes you wish to take and the times you have available.
  • Check that the classes you want are still available.
  • Register for classes using your Student Identification (SID) number and Registration Access Code (RAC).
  • Pay your tuition and fees online link, by mail, or in person at one of the cashiering offices.

Why won't my PIN work for registration?
In order to register online, you first need to get a Registration Access Code (RAC) from your advisor. If you use self-advising, a RAC will be mailed to you prior to your registration time.

How do I get an official transcript?
Official transcripts can only be released after a signed Transcript Request form link is submitted to the registration office. Unofficial transcripts are available online through SOS' transcripts and grades page link.

Why can't I access my records or use SOS services?
If you've tried accessing SOS during available hours, but were unable to gain access, you may have a hold on your account or an outstanding debt to the college (such as unpaid parking tickets or library fines). Contact the registration office for more information.

If you last attended Pierce College prior to 1986 (then known as Fort Steilacoom Community College), you have not been assigned a PIN, so you will be unable to access your student information online. Contact the registration office for help.
