IG Clubhouse Linux Debut

I have always wanted an open-source Clubhouse – with computers running Linux.. SO…..this Friday, the dream has started to come true, at the Intergenerational Clubhouse (Lakewood Presbyterian Church) we will be showcasing a new Puppy Linux that is LOADED (I mean really loaded) with games for all ages. We will also be showing folks how to put this awesome operating system on their own computers. How cool is that?

We will have some special visitors from the local Linux Users group helping us out so I need people to come by. Of course we will also have fun playing foosball, fighting boffer battles, eating, etc..

This is phase one for the IG Clubhouse. Phase two will be installing a more formidable version of Linux that we can learn from and tweak to our hearts content. But that comes later. I hope to see you all on Friday, 4:00-9:00 pm.

Lakewood’s Promise News

The Clubhouse has been producing Lakewood’s Promise News which can be found on the Lakewood’s Promise Website. There are so many stories that we hope to cover during the year. Camera Crew and Interviewers are needed to go out and get the footage for upcoming events. Here is what’s coming up…

Friday, November 13……. Coffee with the Mayor (need a homeschool crew because it is in the morning)

Monday, November 16….. Interview the Lakewood Youth Council

Saturday, November 28 ….. Stuff the Bus

DOGA Halloween Week

This week at the Clubhouse we are making DOGA Halloween art – Jack-o-lanterns, scary things, broomsticks, whatever.

Put your RENDERED jpgs in the Halloween Folder in the BESTWORK folder on the Public Drive.

We will have a DOGA Digital Art Show on Friday at the IG Clubhouse as part of our Halloween Party. The IG Clubhouse is located at Lakewood Presbyterian Church – 8601 104th St SW. The party/pot luck will be from 7:00 to 9:00. Bring food to share and wear your costume!

Make a Difference Day!

Tomorrow, October 24th, is “Make a Difference Day” all around America. There are a number of activities going on in Lakewood. I plan on attending. If there are any Clubhouse teens who are interested in videotaping and interviewing folks on Saturday morning please email me (or talk to me) and I’ll get you set up.

Let’s tell the folks running for city council what the youth in Lakewood want. More parks? Free pizza? Safer streets, sidewalks, schools?

Young people make up a good part of the population of Lakewood. Chime in and post your comments before the election.

We are kicking off our Friday Program at the Intergenerational Clubhouse this week with a MOVIE and POPCORN.

We will be showing “Young at Heart” at 7:00 PM. The Clubhouse will open at 6:00 for computers, games and fun.

Robotics Team Meets Wednesdays

Thanks to a start-up grant from FIRSTWA and Intel, the Clubhouse will be competing in an FLL event this fall. We are looking for enthusiastic team members, ages 10-14 to represent the Clubhouse. You can work with LEGO robotics anytime the Clubhouse is open but we meet as a team on Wednesdays, 5:30 to 7:00. Parents are very welcome to attend as mentors.

Fall Schedule Begins this Week

School is in full swing and the Clubhouse is back to it’s fall schedule…..

Significant changes over last year….
1. We close at 7:00
2. Girls’ Day is now Friday
3. All Homeschool Classes take place at Harrison Prep.
4. Lego Robotics is anytime but the team still meets on Wednesdays

This Week & Next Week

Hey we are open this week – Monday-Thursday, 9:00-3:00. We will not be open Friday, Sep 4th or Monday Sep 7th because of the Labor Day weekend.

NEXT WEEK ……

Sep. 8th Tuesday – Open 9:00 to 3:00
Sep. 9th Wednesday – (first day of school) – open 3:00-7:00
Sep. 10th Thursday – open 3:00 to 7:00
Sep. 11th Friday – Closed (we will be at the all-city tailgate party)

ON Friday September 11th, we need members to staff our booth at the tailgate party from 3:30 to 6:30 at Harry Lang Stadium (Clover Park High School).

We will have a green screen, mic, two monitors and camera set up and the public can do “puppet rants” and say whatever they like with puppets. We will be showcasing Adobe Visual Communicator and will post appropriate “rants” on the website. We will also be passing out flyers about the Clubhouse programs.
