Field Excursion Testimonials

Earth and Space Sciences Department, Pierce College Puyallup

Here is what previous Field Excursion participants had to say about their experiences (typed exactly as written)

Tom Bush did an excellent job organizing a complex trip and providing academic geology content that interested both the students and the other travelers. Johny Romero (our in-country guide) not only knew the biology but also was interesting as an entrepreneur and rising personality. All my expectations were met and I would highly recommend the course/trip to others. Suggestions: 1) Warn a bit more about the risk of seasickness-we werenÕt prepared; 2) The visit to Sierra Negra is essential. If the riding trail doesnÕt get upgraded then probably need to provide an all-walking alternative for those who canÕt handle horses. Ralph Graves, 2008 Galapagos Islands Field Excursion.

Tom Bush is very organized and well prepared. Because of this we cover and accomplish a lot more than one might expect given the short number of days to complete 5 credits. He is also fun to be with and willing and able to answer all kinds of questions about geology, which make field courses with Tom Bush enjoyable and very stimulating. Learning in the field is the best. This class rocks! Beth Meshke, 2008 San Rafael/Capitol Reef Field Excursion.

The whole excursion was well organized. Kept pretty close to the original schedule, but flexible enough to allow for changes in weather. The instructor and assistants were helpful, informative and fun. Lynda Carone, 2007 Canyon Country Field Excursion (Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, Utah)..

The field excursion ÒrockedÓ! (Ha, ha. J) We were learning while enjoying being out in nature. It was better than I expected. Tom Bush is a great teacher and is enthusiastic about what he is teaching. Carissa Maine, 2007 Canyon Country Field Excursion (Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, Utah)..

I learned a lot more on this field excursion than I have learned on any other field trip. The main reason was the instructor was extremely well prepared and presented information in a very organized manner. This enabled me to understand and remember a lot even though this was my first geology course. The field trip was lots of fun, very scenic, and extremely well run logistically. Beth Meshke, 2006 Yellowstone Field Excursion.

Overall an excellent trip! Hard to think how it could be improved. Right level of classroom & field studies. Exceptionally well organized from start to finish. Tom thought of everything and had an arrangement made ahead of time. David H. McCormack, 2006 Galapagos Islands Field Excursion.

This trip far exceeded my expectations! I feel that what we got and saw was a good representation of the islands. Every effort was made to give us a sampling of the flora & fauna and a good explanation of the troubles the islands are experiencing. The instructor and the group added to my enjoyment. Juanita Baumgartner, 2006 Galapagos Islands Field Excursion.

This field trip was a grea experience. It provided me with a thorough understanding of the natural history of the Galapagos Islands and the volcanic process that formed them. Tom was an excellent instructor. I really appreciated his organizational skills, and he made the trip very fun. Heidi McCormack, 2006 Galapagos Islands Field Excursion.

I did not take the course for credit; I had a blast! Very well organized & informative tour. Thanks to Tom! Patricia Bruce, 2006 Galapagos Islands Field Excursion.

I feel that this trip was organized extremely well. I would never had an opportunity like this if it werenÕt for all of Tom And DaleÕs thorough planning. Everything ran smoothly and curriculum correlated together well. I am impressed immensely. All of the sites that we went to were phenomenal. J I loved the hikes and the constant activity. Anonymous, 2005 Hawaii Island Field Excursion.

This experience that I had was utterly incredible, to say the least. Tom is a true professional; he had everything that we needed to know and bring mapped out in clear detail which made the trip a pleasure to be a part of. I always felt safe and well provided for. Tom's knowledge of the landscape and material that we studied never left an unsatisfied feeling. Furthermore, his passion for the land and its natural beauty really inspired me to appreciate the experience to its fullest potential. I saw some of the most incredible sights ever to have graced these eyes of mine, and I am so glad I was able to be a part of this experience. As a result, I am going to attend other field excursions even though I will be at school in Texas which says a lot about Tom and his trips. I encourage anyone who might have considered or are considering one of these trips to jump at the chance; it is well worth the money, and the experience that you have could be one of the most exciting things you ever do. Nathan Hubbard, 2005 Canyon Country Field Excursion (Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, Utah).
