Memory - Example Questions
Apply Two people are listening to a brand new country music song, a country music singer (e.g. Clint Black) and someone who has little music background. Using concepts of memory, describe one way they are processing this experience (this time) differently than each other. (Thus when they say "I remember it," the 'it' will be different. Describe as best you can how they are organizing the information in their short term memory differently. 9. You are at a party and are introduced to someone new. Just after you hear her name, someone says "February 12th", a date you need to remember. Describe why you wouldn't remember the name - in sensory, short term or long term memory or in between?
4. Like Tetyana's experiment, describe something you would have people remember and have it in 2 forms , one that is more easily chunked, one that's less easily chunked. Be sure to think about other factors, like the way it's presented: auditory/visual/kinesthetic, so that you are only varying how easily it is chunked. 3. You are at a party and are introduced to someone new. Just after you hear her name, someone says "February 12th", a date you need to remember. Describe why you wouldn't remember the name in terms of sensory, short term and long term memory. 4. If you are listening to a lecture and trying to come up with your own story that is related to lecture (your own examples), describe one part of the encoding strategy you are using. Begin of Chapter to 227, 250-251 4. Describe a situation where you remembered a chunk of information , how was it organized? What was included/excluded? What was changed? What was it associated to (whether it makes sense or not)? Include some description of the original event and when you remembered it from the time of the event until the later remembering. Find out about the game 20 Questions, both the rules and the best strategies to win the game. How do the rules support the development of one of the four types of LTM more than the other three? How can the strategy for winning the game be applied to studying? Use an example if it helps (e.g. pick something in our classroom, list the questions and yes/no until it is guessed). 2. Someone is thinking about memories of a science lab class they took last quarter. What part of that experience would be in episodic memory? What part in procedural? 2. Your grandmother is showing you how to cook a pie. She moves quickly and smoothly mixing, tasting and testing. You are trying to read the recipe while watching her. Using the model of memory, describe one way you are processing this experience (this time) differently than your grandmother. Consider the feel of these apples, the touch of the batter, the smells of it cooking. | |
