Bio: In the spring of 2000, Mr. Hamilton retired from a 27 year career with the State of Washington. Most of his professional career was spent with the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse (DASA). He has held a variety of positions including:
He has a wide array of experience with all levels of government. He has an on-going working relationship with the Washington State Legislature, legislative staff, and numerous chemical dependency constituency groups. His expertise on Washington State's unique deferred prosecution law generates many requests to speak at national forums on criminal justice issues and to testify before state legislative panels around the country. Mr. Hamilton has taught variations of the Law and Ethics classes at Pierce College, other community colleges, and in workshops around the state since the mid-1980s. He currently holds a Bachelor in Liberal Arts Degree from The Evergreen State College, with an emphasis in anthropology, with applications to political science, public administration, and community law. He remains very interested in each of those areas and attempts to stay active in community affairs. He is currently involved with a number of community organizations attempting to promote environmental and cultural awareness among youth. Mr. Hamilton served with the United States Marine Corp in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967.
