Washington State:

  • The Revised Code of Washington (RCW) main index.  This site lists the main titles of the RCW.  By clicking on a Title, you are connected to a list of the chapters under that Title.  Click on a Chapter and you will find a list of all the sections on law in that Chapter.  Click on a section and you get a text version of that section of law only.
  • The RCW search engine. This search engine is very helpful.  It allows you to type in a few key words, and then searches all the sections of law containing those term.  The more specific the key word you choose, the narrower the search.
  • The Washington Administrative Code (WAC) search engine.  This is another powerful search tool, created by the Municipal Research and Service Center.   The Center's main page offers links to cities throughout the State, with access to all their local ordinances.
  • The Washington State Legislature web site.  This site offers fairly current updates on legislation being considered by both the Washington State House of Representatives and Senate.  It offers copies of bills, bill summaries, sponsor information, and bill status reports.  It also provides information about legislative district boundaries.  It profiles each Legislator, and provides e-mail addresses and other contact information.

  • Library of Congress Thomas Internet information web site.  This is a wonderful site.  It offers comprehensive look at the US Congress and how it operates.  It provides current information about all legislation being considered by Congress.  It offers copies of bills, status reports, and staff summaries.  Copies of debates on the bills can also be accessed.  It is usually kept up-to-date, including copies of new laws, within minutes after passage.
  • The Legal Action Center is a non-profit organization providing consultation and legal services for persons with chemical dependency, HIV/AIDS, and criminal convictions.  They are the best resource for current information about the administration of federal alcohol and drug confidentiality laws (42 CFR, Part 2).
