Worker Retraining Success
He seems like your typical or average guy, but he's more than average. Gary Laxson is unique, smart, witty and humble. He is very aware that his life has been full of ups and downs. Currently, it's on the up-side as he just graduated with honors from Pierce with an Associates in Digital Design.
Gary is working at a company that provides management and sales training to independent auto repair shops. Gary works in their Creative Services department. He is putting all his technical and graphic design skills to work maintaining the company website, websites for other clients and helping the company design marketing and training materials. Gary's previous talents kept him employed as an auto repair and equipment mechanic and manager. What a match!
Gary is humble about his beginnings. He quit high school to pursue work. After being laid-off he wasn't sure what he should do, but he had always wanted to pursue a career in graphic design. He was determined to get an education.
Gary had heard about worker retraining years ago, and eventually met the right person at Pierce who got him into the Worker Retraining program. He was able to complete his high school diploma and associates degree in two years. He says he finally proved to himself he was able to accomplish anything he set his mind to. Gary says that “the best investment anyone can make is in themselves.” He's living proof.
