Pierce College District complies with all applicable local, state, and federal environmental laws and regulations related to the management and disposal of hazardous and biohazardous materials and waste. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
  • Washington State Department of Ecology (DOE) – Dangerous Waste Regulations (Chapter 173-303 WAC)
  • Washington State Department of Health – Biomedical Waste Definitions (RCW 70.95K.010)
  • Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department (TPCHD) – Infectious Waste Regulation (Health Code Chapter 6)
  • Additional requirements of local jurisdictions and municipalities

This policy applies to all hazardous materials and waste generated on Pierce College campuses and during off-site activities. Pierce College District may implement additional requirements for the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and biohazardous materials and waste to protect the health and safety of students, employees, visitors, and district property. 

Note: JBLM campus locations are governed by the host facility’s environmental policies and regulations.
