When Jerad Lewis enrolled at Pierce College in 2017, he had been out of school for more than seven years. The transition to college life was not exactly easy, but thanks to solid advising and a great experience in his College Success course, he quickly found his groove and was inspired to continue on to earn his degree.

Johnson, Ph.D., will be retiring at the end of 2022 after a distinguished 45-year career of teaching and leadership, including 17 years as chancellor/CEO of Pierce College District. Pierce College student Gavin Reeber was recently recognized for civic leadership at a special event hosted by the Washington Campus Compact. The Student Civic Leadership Award recognizes up to two students per college for their work in civic engagement and social entrepreneurship. Pierce College Puyallup Interim President Matt Campbell, Ed.D., presented the award to Reeber during a special ceremony in Seattle.

For only the third time in the college’s more than 50-year history, Pierce College conferred an honorary associate of arts degree to State Board of Community & Technical College (SBCTC) Executive Director Jan Yoshiwara during this year’s commencement ceremony on Friday, June 17.
