Workforce Support Programs

Each Workforce support program has unique eligibility qualifications. Visit www.startnextquarter.org to complete a free, online survey tool for identifying possible eligibility for Workforce funding and resources.

Worker Retraining 

Worker Retraining funds may be available for tuition and books for students enrolled in professional/technical programs who meet one of the following criteria: 

  • You are collecting or have collected Unemployment Insurance in the past 48 months  
  • You are unemployed or underemployed after having been dependent on another family member’s income but are no longer supported by that income due to separation, divorce, death, or displacement.  
  • You are formerly self-employed and currently unemployed due to general economic conditions 
  • You are employed in a position not in demand and need training for a position in demand or need training to stay employed in your current position. 
  • You separated from the military within the past 48 months or active-duty military who will separate in the next 12 months.  

WorkFirst 

Students who receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits and participate in the WorkFirst program may fulfill their DSHS participation requirements by going to school.  Services may include assistance with tuition, books, and supports services, as well as qualifying for DSHS-subsidized childcare. 

Basic Food, Employment and Training (BFET) 

Students who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and participate in the BFET program may fulfill their DSHS participation requirements by going to school. Services may include assistance with tuition, books, and supports services, as well as qualifying for DSHS-subsidized childcare.
