Faculty Learning Communities
A faculty learning community (FLC) is a group of people who are committed to learning together and improving assessment, teaching, and learning in higher education. FLCs are designed to facilitate sharing and peer-learning, by encouraging individual community members to contribute their knowledge, skills and networks to the community.
Washington State has a rich tradition of FLCs throughout the 34 community and technical colleges. The following are the state funded FLCs hosted at Pierce College.
During the 2014-2015 academic year, Pierce College received funding from the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges for one FLC:
- Poverty Competency at Pierce College
During the 2013-2014 academic year, Pierce College received funding from the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges for one FLC:
- Interdisciplinary Collaborations between Professional & Technical Programs
During the 2012-2013 academic year, Pierce College received funding from the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges for two FLCs:
- Owning College Success: Engaging the College Community in the Development and Assessment of COLLG 110
- Designing Learning Environments with Canvas
These FLCs proved vital to the advancement of key Pierce College efforts – Achieving the Dream and the transition to the Canvas learning management system.
